Spring Maintenance for Your Concrete Fence

Written by Chris Miller | Mar 10, 2023 2:00:00 PM

Winter is ALMOST over! That means warmer weather, flowers, and baseball. A lot of individuals start their annual or bi-annual property maintenance. For homeowners, this could include a duct cleaning for their A/C or powerwash for their home. While precast concrete fences are virtually maintenance-free, there are always little things you can do to maintain the appearance and life of your concrete fence. Consider these tips on spring maintenance for your concrete fence.

In places where the weather can be harsh, it’s important to make sure any potential problems are addressed before problematic weather occurs. This can start with washing your fence. We recommend using a power washer to clean off the dust and debris that may have built up since the last cleaning. If you do not own a pressure washer or you feel that a specific area needs special attention, hand washing your fence is always an option and a simple mixture of water and detergent is all you need. There are many suitable concrete cleaners and environmentally friendly solutions available on the market today. This will not only make your fence look clean but reveal potential problems in the structure of your fence. Once that’s done, take a walk along the fence line and check for hazards. Some hazards you should take note of include:

Overhanging branches

You should also be aware of any overhead obstacles that may cause damage to your precast concrete fence, such as trees. You can prevent potential damage by trimming back any trees that may become an issue.

Chips or cracks on the fence

One of the most common issues to occur is damage caused by something hitting your precast concrete fence, such as a lawnmower or vehicle, causing it to chip or crack. If lawnmowers or vehicles prove to be a continuous issue, you could plant bushes or create a buffer in front of the wall to help deter additional damage.

Leaning Posts

If you have a leaning post, it would need to be reset before it can affect the rest of the structure. This seems like an easy fix but determining why it was leaning is important to ensure you do not have the same problem in the future.
